Elias Messinas is a graduate of the Yale School of Architecture, Bezalel Academy, and holds a Ph.D. from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and an M.Sc. on Environment and Development at NTUA. Elias has conducted research at the Ben Gurion University in the Negev on passive-solar retrofits. Elias is an expert in urban planning and public participation management in the Ginot Hayir Community Council in the City of Jerusalem. Elias teaches, as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer, sustainable design at the Holon Institute of Technology and at Patras University School of Architecture, as Adjunct Assistant Professor.

Elias leads workshops at universities around the world. He is the author of numerous articles, catalogues, three books on historic architecture, and the co-editor of the ECOWEEK The Book#1 50 Voices for Sustainability and ECOWEEK The Book#2 15 Paths to Sustainability: from Innovation to Social Design and a number of ECOWEEK catalogues with sustainable design projects in 17 countries. Elias has lectured widely and has exhibited his work, research and travel sketchbooks in Europe, Israel, and the US. Elias is the creator of ECOWEEK with an international outreach to 17 countries.
